Congratulations to Dylan Yates for being selected as a member of The Macy's Great American Marching Band for the 84th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York on November 25, 2010. Honoring America's finest high school musicians, this band will be comprised of select students from each of the fifty states. Selections are made through an audition process. The musicians are under the direction of Dr. Jon Woods, Ohio State University and Dr. Richard Good, Auburn University. The percussion is under the direction of Dr. Doug Rosener, Auburn University.
Stepping off from Central Park, the Band will be cheered by the 2.5 million spectators lining the parade route. Arriving at Macy's Herald Square, the Band will perform for celebrity hosts, a grandstand audience, and more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC.
Dylan is an active church member and a member of the Foley High School Band under the direction of Mr. Carl Major. "I am excited for Dylan to be a participant in the Macy's Parade with such a high caliber band. I marched in the Macy's Parade in 1989 with the All-American High School Band and now it will be pleasure to watch one of my students participate in this nationally televised event," stated Carl Major, Director of Bands at Foley High School. Dylan is section leader of the percussion, lead pan in the steel band and first chair in the wind ensemble. He has been a member of the Alabama All-State Band for the past five years, Auburn University Honor Band, the University of Alabama Honor Band, University of Southern Mississippi Honor Band, Troy University Honor Band, JSU Honor Band and UNA Honor Band. Dylan has also been nominated for the U.S. Army All-American Band for the 2011 game in San Antonio, TX. Results will be posted in June, 2010.
