Advanced Placement English students, Creative Writing students and Scholars Bowl team members represented Foley High School in the annual Faulkner State Community College's Language Arts Tournament on Tuesday, February, 23. The English faculty at Faulkner dons many hats as they host, present and score each section of the tournament organized by their own Janet Langham.
Students competed in Reading, American Literature, British Literature, Composition and Creative Writing. Their talent with words won the Lions 10 trophies and two scholarships to Faulkner. Darren Gray won first place in Composition and third place in Reading. Patrick Hurd took first place in Reading and second place in Composition. Foley made a clean sweep when Hannah Doering also won third place in Composition. Jake Moore placed second in British Literature while Jasmine Mason won first place for Poetry. Mandy Howard's Short Story placed first while her Poem placed second in Creative Writing. Daniel Koontz' third place Short Story rounded out the trophy count.
